Suzanne Schmidt Harvie ’77 has been engaged in a Facebook thread about Pine Log Camp, the Adirondack summer camp where many a Skidmore PE major played, learned, and taught back in the day. Another Skiddie in the FB conversation has been Julie Sullivan ’73, whom Suzanne thought was a very cool counselor when she was a camper. In fact, Suzanne says, “I probably would never have ended up at Skidmore if it wasn’t for Pine Log, as so many of the counselors were from Skidmore.” She also found an old Scope magazine with a photo quiz featuring the camp, which she’s sorry she missed, because “I surely would have said it was Pine Log.” (To see the quiz’s answers and reminiscences, click here and scroll down a bit.)
Suzanne muses, “It’s funny how we are are sharing our memories of 30 years ago. It seems as if we are hungry for memories of a simpler time.” Small world? Maybe, and especially now with the Internet.
My sister and I were at Pine Log Camp through the 50’s. We went for 7 yrs. Ms Kinnear and Ms Baldwin were the owners at that time. My family had a summer home in Lake Luzerne. i have wonderful stories and memories of being there. I started when I was 8 and my sister was 11
And I bet several of your camp counselors or other staff in those days were Skidmore phys-ed majors! –Sue R., Scope.
yes most likely since Skidmore was nearby- may have a chance to re visit my childhood haunts this summer. And want to go to hot springs and race track I live in Colorado with my family- Have not been back there for 50 yrs. Too bad the camp didn’t keep on like Brown Ledge in Vt where I was a counselor.- Cynthia Bellini
